Our fifty-eight clubs are located in the northern third of Indiana, in twenty-seven counties.Rotary District 6540 is geographically bounded by the states of Ohio, Michigan and Illinois.
The Rotary Club of South Bend was chartered March 1, 1914 and at that time we were District 8. Our first governors came from Chicago, Indianapolis, Vincennes, etc. As clubs were organized our district numbers changed, and we became geographically smaller.
We became 154 in 1938 and were composed of our existing counties. In 1957 we became District 654, and the zero was added in 1991 and new club numbers assigned in club alphabetical order. Our club numbers are Albion #3340 thru Warsaw #3393. With newer clubs assigned with higher club numbers.
Rotary Club of Delphi continues to preserve and promote the Wabash/Erie Canal in Carroll County. Visit the area and take a canal boat ride, and visit the historical museum.
Rotary Clubs of Fort Wayne and Anthony Wayne derived their names from the historic Fort Wayne built in 1815 and General Anthony Wayne.
Peru was the winter quarters for the Ringling Bros. for many years. Visit your fellow Rotarians in Peru and enjoy their youth present one of the greatest shows on earth and earn the opportunity to win a scholarship. They will present their 57th community circus in July, 2016.
Many clubs enjoy the bountiful beauty of our northern Indiana nature. Rotary Clubs of Michigan City and Chesterton/Porter share the beautiful Indiana Dunes State Park and the many miles of Lake Michigan beaches and sand dunes of the National Lakeshore Park.
The Rotary Clubs of Fowler, Boswell & Otterbein, located in Benton County, is home to the first wind farms in Indiana and the largest concentration of wind turbines in the World…nearly 800 so far!
Rotary Club of DeMotte/Kankakee Valley provides one of Indiana's greatest wildlife spectacles at the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area. Each fall, tens of thousands of sand hill cranes visit the shallow marshes. Watch them from the viewing stand.
Rotary Club of Angola can enjoy Pokagon State Park, Lake James and many other lakes in northeast Indiana. Our Warsaw, Churubusco, Kendallville and Monticello clubs have many lakes and natural areas to enjoy, as well as amusement parks in the area.
Enjoy a train ride? Climb aboard in South Bend, ride an electric powered train, ride the new double deck cars west across the district. It stops in our Rotary communities of Michigan City, Chesterton, Portage, Gary, Hammond and stops at Randolph and Michigan Streets in Chicago at the new Millennium Park. Then visit the National New York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart.
